While the number of vehicles in Bangalore is rising, new traffic fines implemented in this city since 1st September 2019 seek to pull down traffic violations significantly. Individuals owning a vehicle in this city must, therefore, know all the traffic rules and check traffic fines in Bangalore that they may need to pay on respective violations.
With the newly imposed fines, the government has also undertaken steps to make fine payment simpler. The e-challan system for instance, introduced in 2016, has facilitated easy fine payment to quite an extent. Unlike the earlier process where you had to pay these fines physically at one of the traffic police stations, e-challans have facilitated payment of these fines online. These are, in essence, digitally-enabled traffic fine payment system.
However, before getting into the details about e-challan, let’s take a brief look at the new fines implemented in Bangalore and the changes made to the existing penalties.
New Traffic Fines Implemented in Bangalore
As per amendments made in the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, traffic fines have been revised. The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 implemented by the Central Government thus allows for an improved traffic regulation through hiked penalties.
While many state governments in India have implemented new fines as stated in the Act, states like Karnataka went on to reduce these fines imposed on various listed violations. Few other states further kept it on hold.
In Bangalore, the new traffic fines are thus implemented as per the Karnataka Government’s decision to revise and reduce them.
So before taking your vehicle to the road, make sure you check the new traffic penalties to gauge your liabilities.
Now, onto e-challan and its details!
